Zoas, Palys and Protos - Oh My!
Zoas, palys and protos - the reefing slang we use to describe zoanthids, palythoas and protopalythoas. Whatever you choose to call them, there is one unmistakable truth that is universally accepted: they are colorful, unique and possess an endless display of jaw-dropping patterns as if they were painted by Pablo Picasso himself. Some are speckled, with bisecting lines, solid colors, neon colors, contrasting colors, muted colors, multi-colored, some even have striations radiating from their oral slit outward.
Their popularity has exploded in recent years, and many marine aquarists are discovering them for the first time. In the right tank, in the right space, with the proper lighting and the viewing of this month’s ReefSlides, maybe, just maybe, they’ll find their way into your tank. Sit back in your easy chair and enjoy the show!
Be sure to visit the Zoanthids forum to learn more about how to care for these beautiful corals.
